From the President

November 2009 issue

Fellow flyfishers,

This will be the last message that I write you as the President. I just wanted to tell all of you what a pleasure it has been leading our club this last year. I had a great group of people helping me along the way. Be sure to thank all of the current officers and board members for all that they do for you as a club. It is because of them that we all get to enjoy the things that we do in the fly fishing world here in Carson City.

We had a lot of great outings in the past year. We fished our usual places like Pyramid and Hinkson in the winter, had the great May camping weekend at Lower Twin Lake, summer fishing at Spooner Lake and the fall fishing at Heenan. We even tried some new places as a club and went to the Truckee River. I would like to personally thank Dave Conklin for his great job as chef at all of the fish out barbeques. If not for him, we would have had to eat a sack lunch. BBQ is better!

Speaking of Dave, we all owe him and his wife Debby a huge thank you for hosting our annual picnic meeting again at their house. We had one of our largest turn outs. And again Dave did a great job as the chef, cooking burgers, dogs and ribs. If you have not attended one of our picnic meetings, be sure to mark your calendar for the first Wednesday in July. You won’t be sorry.

We also covered a lot of areas with our speakers this year; and donated to a lot of good causes. You should be proud of the accomplishments of our little club. I think we make a difference in the fishing world. We have helped supply fish to nearby waters, supported the annual Kid’s Fishing Derby at Lampe Park and Trout in the Classroom. We contribute to NDOW with funding and man hours on their projects.

And we tied flies. Thanks to Stan Zuber for again holding his beginning fly tying classes. We are constantly building on our skills of fly tying. This year we had the Fly Tying Expo. We also have the tier’s cabin for those who have attended Stan’s class or are an intermediate tyer.

We had a little bit of something for everyone. And to celebrate all of it, we have our annual banquet on November 7th at Gold Dust West. Sorry, we don’t sell tickets at the door. We want you to get what you want for dinner. If you are unable to attend this year, don’t worry. We will probably be at the same place next year. Mark your calendar for the first Saturday in November and watch the web site for all the information.

There you have it! It’s been a great year. And as I have said for the last year, it’s your club and we hope you get out of it what you were looking for.

Tight lines and fish more!
Jackie
